Located in the Yanwu area of Siming District, close to Xiamen University in Xiamen, Fujian Province, Xiamen Twin Towers is one of the city’s most important cultural and tourism landmarks. Recognized as a national 3A-level tourist attraction, the complex combines sightseeing, shopping, entertainment, leisure, and cultural experiences into one destination.

The project features two super high-rise towers with a design inspired by Minnan maritime traditions and contemporary architectural concepts. One tower reaches 300 meters with 64 floors, while the other stands 249.7 meters tall with 55 floors. Covering approximately 30,000 square meters of land and offering around 336,000 square meters of total construction area, the Twin Towers have become a defining part of Xiamen’s modern skyline.

The main viewing attraction is the high-altitude observation area on the 55th floor, located 260 meters above the ground. From here, visitors can enjoy a 360-degree panorama of famous sights including Gulangyu Island, Xiamen University, the Island Ring Road, and Xiamen Bay, making it one of the city’s most popular elevated viewing platforms.

History and Cultural Significance

Developed by Shimao Group and designed by the British architectural firm Atkins, Xiamen Twin Towers were created with inspiration from Xiamen’s city flower, the flame tree, as well as the traditional sailing culture of southern Fujian. The twin structures represent the image of wings rising toward the sky.

The project officially began in 2011, construction of the main structures started in 2013, and the entire complex was completed and opened in 2015. The high-altitude observation facilities officially welcomed visitors in 2016, quickly establishing the towers as a new symbol of Xiamen.

As an important modern landmark within the Xiamen Special Economic Zone, the Twin Towers represent the city’s connection with the Maritime Silk Road and reflect its development toward internationalization and cultural tourism integration. Combining traditional Minnan ocean culture with the energy of a modern metropolis, the complex serves as an important showcase of Xiamen’s identity and a major attraction for visitors from China and around the world.

Cloud Top Xiamen Sightseeing Hall

Situated on the 55th floor at an elevation of 260 meters, Cloud Top Xiamen Sightseeing Hall covers an area of approximately 1,300 square meters. It is the highest indoor and outdoor integrated observation platform in Xiamen.

The viewing area features transparent glass windows, high-definition telescopes, and cultural exhibition spaces. Visitors can enjoy wide views of Xiamen Island, Gulangyu Island, the Kinmen Islands, and Zhangzhou Port, making it the central sightseeing experience of the Twin Towers.

Sky Walk

Sky Walk is the first outdoor high-altitude walking experience project of its kind in Fujian Province. Located outside the 55th-floor observation area, this transparent walkway extends 30 meters in length and is 1.2 meters wide.

Protected by professional safety equipment and transparent barriers, visitors can experience the excitement of standing at an altitude of around 300 meters while looking directly down at the city below. It has become one of the most memorable immersive attractions at Xiamen Twin Towers.

Shimao Emall Commercial Center

Located within the podium section of the Twin Towers, Shimao Emall covers a commercial area of approximately 70,000 square meters. It is a comprehensive shopping and entertainment destination combining retail stores, restaurants, cultural creativity, entertainment facilities, and family activities.

Visitors can explore local Minnan cuisine, international brands, cinemas, and creative lifestyle shops, creating a convenient one-stop destination for shopping, dining, and relaxation.

Twin Towers Night Light Show

The exterior of Xiamen Twin Towers is equipped with a large LED lighting system that creates impressive themed light displays every evening. Each performance usually lasts around 5 to 10 minutes and combines elements of marine culture, Minnan traditions, and seasonal themes.

During major holidays and special events, customized light shows are presented, making the Twin Towers one of the most attractive nighttime landmarks in Xiamen.

Twin Towers Square

Located at the base of the two towers, Twin Towers Square is an open public area with a spacious layout and excellent views of the surrounding scenery. It is a popular place for visitors to photograph the complete Twin Towers from the outside.

The square also serves as the main entrance connecting the observation facilities and shopping areas, making it an important starting point for exploring the entire complex.

The Elbphilharmonie was created by the celebrated Swiss architectural practice Herzog & de Meuron. Rising above a brick warehouse base known as the former Kaispeicher A, the building combines Hamburg’s industrial heritage with a strikingly modern design. The original warehouse was constructed at the harbor between 1963 and 1966 and was once used to store commodities such as tea, tobacco and cocoa. Above this historic foundation, the glass upper structure rises approximately 110 metres into the Hamburg skyline, crowned by a distinctive roofline that resembles ocean waves.
